ICOM IC-706 100W HF/144MHz ALL MODE Transceiver Amateur Ham Radio Working
28 March 2023
I got the French version. No tx above 3.900
This is ICOM 706 not mkiig or other. I like the Icom but I must have got the french version. It did not work on 75 meters meaning it had band edges set at 3.900 and would not transmit up past 3.901 - 3.999 and this is where my nets are held for my club. So according to the digital manual I downloaded from icom, it would be the french version. This was only the radio without a mic and no power cord. The unit works, albeit the wrong version for me.
Sirio GPE 27 5/8 26.4-29 Mhz Tunable Base Antenna - Great for DX!
09 October 2019
BAD SWR (Load Coil) for 11 meters. Not for 10 Meters. No Ohms Match Adjuster.
This product was completely tuneable but with any tuning setting it was unable to provide the SWR within range of a useable product in the 28-29 Mhz 10 meter band. This Antenna is designed for the 11 meter band and has a coil that is where the tuning is pre-set. There is no way to "tune" the antenna at this location of the product, but at the top the length is adjustable. It will make no difference tuning the length of the antenna longer or shorter to match the band since the impedance level is managed by the size and length of the coils in the base load which is static. A replacement antenna has already been installed on the same mast with a tuneable base for impedance matching which works perfectly and has matched the radio and cables 50 ohm level. Same cable same radio, 1:1:1 match. This antenna had 5.1:1 at its correct length for 10 meters and ~InfiniteSWR when any other length. The connections were tested and everything was connected properly. This antenna simply could not do the job because it could not be tuned. It is now a paper weight in my yard because I ended up breaking the connection of the coil to ground plane so I can not return the item. I also had difficulty screwing the antenna sections together as there were no tap holes pre-drilled except on the top part. Bad value and not an out of the box useable item for Ham Radio. I went with a Cushcraft AR-10 to replace this funky mistake..
