A Once in a Lifetime Book - You will love it!
I'm a 78 year old woman, whose friend, aged 37 years, asked me to read this book. Because I care about the friend, I decided to read it. This, in spite of the fact that although I am a voracious reader, the sight of this 645 page book was daunting! However, I decided to plow on, and ended up completely entranced with it. It has everything: lots of humor, a lot of exotic "place and people", major thought-provoking issues that are deeply moving. Before long, I was emotionally involved, and when I came to the end, I was aware that I was feeling a physical sensation, as if I had been punched in the stomach. I was feeling such a sense of loss, and it was a full half-hour before I could move. I realized I hadn't had a book affect me this much, since I read "Gone with the Wind" when I was thirteen years old. It is "one in a million" book, with characters you will care about more than you can imagine. No one should deny themselves the opportunity to feel entertained, enriched and enlightened! It's a "keeper" - which is why I bought this one for me to read again!

A Lovely Book
I got this book for a younger friend who just recently discovered Pissarro The book is beautifully done, with a marvelous combination of great photos of the art, and excellent text to accompany them. And my friend is thrilled!

The Movies Go to the Opera - Original Soundtracks
I was raised in a home where opera was never heard - yet now that I'm "a woman of a certain age", I've come to love it. Largely, this love was sparked by my love of movies, where I came to hear many, many opera arias. For years, I'd hear some of these pieces, but never knew the names. It has been recordings such as this one that have brought me heart-felt pleasure. I don't think I'll ever be a true opera buff, but I love hearing these gorgeous recordings. This CD is excellent quality, top-notch, with world-recognized singers, ie., Pavarotti singing "Nessum Dorma", and "Ebben? Ne andro lontano, sung by Maria Callas, (from the film "Diva" and where I heard it- "The Year of Living Dangerously". You have the gorgeous "Pearl Fishers" duet, and lots of beloved "La Boheme". There's not much more I could ask for!
