Great BluRay home theater system on a budget
The home theater world is largely divided into cheap, all-in-one systems and very expensive component systems. The former are great for small spaces, but lack features, sound quality, and inputs. The latter offers everything that you could ever want, but cost an arm and a leg. This Sony system is great because it falls somewhere in the middle. It's relatively small and is therefore perfect for a small to medium sized room, but the sound quality is above average and, most importantly, it actually has HDMI inputs so you can legitimately use this all-in-one unit as a receiver. That final point is the reason why I bought it. I don't have room for a massive component system, but I want to be able to plug in other HDMI sources without running all audio through my TV, which downgrades all of it to 2.1, or using an HDMI splitter of some kind. This system checks all the boxes when it comes to features, is reasonably priced (especially when used), and sounds pretty good. My only complaints are that it is very slow to power on and that it is missing a bit of mid-range sound from the speakers. There is a setting to make it power on faster, but that really just means that it never turns off and keeps the fan running constantly. And the lack of mid range should be expected given the size of the satellite speakers. All in all, this system does exactly what I wanted it to do and I am very happy with it.
