Just like the arcade game
THE BASICS: Its a sequel (II) fighting game with weapon effects specific to characters selected. Pretty much exactly the same thing as what was in the arcades, but without the need to continually feed it quarters or tokens and with extra options for single player entertainment besides pounding on your friends. If you liked that, you'll like this as well. It doesn't have the create-your-own fighter features that were available in SCIII but it has great graphics (2d) and weapons. Plus a story mode for unlocking more custom weapon options to take your favorite character to the peak of their power. It was challenging and fun (and hard enough to be frustrating at times, too) and provided many hours of entertainment before we unlocked everything and still fun to play even afterwards. I don't know how it compared to Street Fighter as it was never one of my favorites to play, but I do like it much more than the early MORTAL KOMBAT titles and it's much more fun to watch visually speaking than either of the other two. I used to stand and watch others battle at the arcade just because it was like watching a cool interactive kung-fu cartoon. It's not as...gross...as MK titles - no animated "fatality" type blood and guts or ripping people's arms off - feels more like the Japanese Anime that is more advanced than "Pokemon" but not as graphic as "Overfiend" - TEEN violence as opposed to MATURE or KIDS level, I'd say. There is lots of eye candy and some of the female characters are scantily clad. As far as gameplay itself, Soul Calibur is midrange: i.e. it is not as hard to master as Virtua Fighter, but not quite as easy to learn as Tekken titles (which has always mapped the four buttons to the four extremities of the fighter and the game I have always found most intuitive to play). Soul Calibur titles are somewhere in the middle as the buttons map to a certain range of motions (horizontal attack, vertical attack, kick)and if you don't like the way the buttons are set up there are alternate layouts to choose from that may fit your style better. The combos are also a little less complex to execute than in the later generations, but you can think of it like a stock base model Honda Civic that's good and solid at what it does as is - and only got better from there. As with any fighting game, I recommend the purchase of a large arcade style joystick with large buttons for the best experience. I bought the Original Playstation (PSX) and an asciiware stick that was about $100 just by itself, just so I could buy TEKKEN II and play at home. Fortunately that stick works great with the SCII game also and it's sooo much better than using a controller. Highly recommended in general, though, as it is still among my favorites to play. Especially for a cheap used one in the $5.00 bin or something. Totally worth it even at $10.

Perfect "kabob" hanging toys - much better value than retail store
Excellent purchase! Colors are vibrant and varied, many shapes and sizes to keep things interesting. Holes are just right for stacking onto the kabob stick type toys that retail packs only give you a fruit shaped pieces at a time for $3-$5. Plus they really do smell great enough that it almost makes ME want to nibble on them too! Literally about ten times the number of items in just one order for the same price you pay for maybe 10 pieces in the store packs from Kaytee or Superpet or wherever. Even beats the less expensive packages I used to buy which gives maybe 16-20 of those little green/yellow/pink wood rectangles without holes in them. These can be used as loose nibble toys OR on the hanger without having to drill them myself! Much better value and just as entertaining for my chins to play with. Just as described in the listing - Highly recommended.!

Still fun, but the ps2 versions are better
General vs Singstar: First of all, I have to mention that I have a peeve with Singstar right off the bat since it necessitates the purchase of Sony's proprietary mic hardware, and artificially at that. (The reason you can't use a regular analog mic with an ordinary plug isn't because of some fancy technology or even programming, but simply because Sony deliberately made the plastic housing on the adapter protrude so as to interfere with a regular plug being fully inserted into the jack. If you remove the housing, regular mics work just fine, but you still need the proprietary adapter.) Peeves with marketing ploys aside, I still say that KR is a stronger series in general, and if this offering is a first foray into the singing game genre, you surely won't be disappointed. This is a great party game, but also actually useful as a practice tool for wanna-be singers (but no improvising, you are scored by how you match the expected notes, not whether its musically pleasing.) If you are deciding between this and Singstar titles, after having tried both I'll say I would choose this over Singstar in a heartbeat because actual gameplay is more rewarding and fun. In terms of song selection, downloadable content is much more plentiful for the UK sensational Singstar, but even though I have very eclectic music tastes, I would say that only 10% of Singstar's nearly 1,000 available titles were of any interest to me. Although the lyrics are sometimes inaccurate (and are cover versions, not original artists) I think US players will find more familiar and therefore more playable content in this title, both on disk and online (Encore1 songs available also). Also play-wise, Singstar is kind of boring (particularly for single player - unless you REALLY liked watching MTV back when they just played music videos), while Encore 2 is more engaging, playful, with much stronger challenge elements and rewards which give it value as a "game" rather than just a home karaoke machine. Compared with previous releases on PS2: This third installment offered the added benefit of competing with online players - meaning that I needn't depend on my shy friends if I wished to play a head to head battle (and more than likely totally dominate anyway - no game there.) However I have yet to find even one match-up online to participate in. This compared to the 8 million+ people shooting each other in COD4 who can find a match in 10 seconds. Maybe that says more about a weakness in society rather than in the game though. Customizable options are lessened in this version, which makes it harder to build an avatar that I feel as comfortable with, and that identity matching was really missed. For some reason, I don't recall those characters acting quite so "Cheesy" either. Character renditions of the judges are almost the same; Paula and Randy say the same old same old and practically verbatim, though clearly "Simon" has undergone a personality alteration that can't be ignored, which really detracts from the authenticity and fun. I know when I suck, and before, I could count on Simon giving me a few good tips for improvement, but this versions disingenuous sycophantic judging is likely to lead to even more delusional people showing up for auditions to the show. Maybe it gets better in Expert mode. In sum, having moved from the PS2 American Idol titles to the PS3 with Encore 2, I can say its still a game I love. But I think I loved the predecessors a little bit mor
