LG 31MU97C-B 31 LED LCD Monitor - 17:9 - 5 ms - 4096 x 2160 - 1 Billion Colors
12 December 2015
One of the best monitors I've ever owned
I recently build up a dedicated photo editing/cataloging machine, after having issues trying to do photography on the same machine I game/work on. I built the following, if anyone is curious E3-1231 v3, MS-Z97S SLI Krait MB NZXT S340 case 16GB Kingston Fury-X RMA PNY Quadro k2000 video card 120GB M.2 SSD for photoshop /lightroom scratch+cache+pagefile, 1TB Samsung EVO 850 for Image storage 120GB Samsung EVO 850 for OS Windows 10 home This monitor The colors out of the box were nearly spot on, according to the included calibration report, no light bleed around the edges, and the brightness/contrast were really good. I installed the hardware calibration software, and then plugged my Spyder 4 in, and got slightly better results (delta E under 1 in most cases, average was ~1%). Viewing angle side to side is pretty good, but I sit directly in front of it so any viewing angle limitations don't bother me. Compared to my Dell UP2410 I was using, this thing is gorgeous. Seeing my 32Mp images on the 4k display show me detail i hadn't been able to see before, and working on images is easier. Skin tones look more lifelike, everything is good. The only complaints I really have, are the fact that the monitor does not "click" into place when leveled horizontally (like in the picture). When I move it around to adjust cables or what not, i find it's slightly slanted, and i almost need to get a level out to ensure it's completely horizontal. Not a big con, but thought I'd point it out. The cables are also a little hard to plug in to the bottom, unless you completely spin the monitor sideways (or at least a 45 degree angle). Once plugged in and ready to go, things work great. One last bit: Originally this worked out of the box with windows 10 home x64, but microsoft released an update about a week or so ago that caused the USB hub to not be detected anymore. I was able to download a windows 10 driver from TI (Texas Instruments) directly to fix this, but thought I'd point it out to anyone considering this.
