Excellent tool for the price
As a full-time, professional wood turner, I have found Crown tools to be every bit as good as Robert Sorby tools, which are generally considered to be the best in the industry but at a higher price than the Crown tools. While the manufacturer claims a longer edge retention with the cryogenically treated steel, and I believe this to be true for plane blades where I do not want a burr on the edge, I do not find this to be true for this tool where a good burr is needed for cutting. The burr on this tool lasts the same length of time as burrs normally last me on HSS that has not been cryogenically treated. Time will tell if I get a longer life out of this tool, and for sure it will not be shorter, but I would not spend extra money to purchase this tool over the regular HSS ones. I keep my grinder in a darker corner of my shop so I can see the burr forming on the tool edge by the heat sparks that come off the edge as I grind, but the cryogenically-treated tool does not do this, so I have to trust the burr is forming without this visual confimation that I've come to trust so well. Despite this, I do still get a decent burr and a decent cut with this tool. For now, I do love this tool, and recommend it to any wood turner - especially at the current price.
