Easy to use, well made and versatile wifi ereader from Sony
Having owned a Sony PRS 505 for a couple of years I have become a book reader convert. All my friends and most of the family said I was mad and remained loyal to the concept of the printed page. The PRS T1 is a significant improvement on the 505. It is very well made, light and robust. Improved features include, a dictionary for those troublesome words, wifi capability so you can browse the internet and download a book when the urge takes you. All in all it is difficult to find anything wrong with the Sony T1 apart from the one glaring ommission that Sony may regret...the absence of a backlight or glow screen. For the new price it should have had this feature and only Sony know why they didnt incorporate this into either the T1 or the T2. In summary I really like the T1 but then I am a self confessed Sony fan but others may look at the price and think that the comparable Kindle or Kobo is a better option in view of the back light feature.

The Sony PRS 505 book reader is an excellent product.
When I bought this item my mind was still not made up as to the virtues of digital book readers, however when I finally got one in my hands I rapidly started to like the idea of digitised paperbacks. The reader is well built although it lacks some basic (in my opinion) features, for instance there is no back light and no contrast settings for the screen display. However these are minor points that don't detract from the overall appeal or enjoyment of the reader. The sheer conveniance of the thing makes up for any small negatives. The only thing that prospective buyers of a second hand Sony reader need to be beware of is the digital management rights used by Sony. When you first install the software you are prompted to set up your personal details which are then registered to the reader. If the item is new this is fine but on a second hand reader details have already been set up by the previous user. Effectively this means that you cannot read anything purchased by the original owner and the only way to move forward is to reformat the reader and erase everything. Fortunately in my case the previous owner gave me his registration details which meant that I could keep the 48 books that came with the reader, although I did have a whole evening of stress trying to find my own solution before refering back to the seller. To sum up. The Sony PRS 505 is a well made, sturdy and robust book reader with very good battery life. The convenience of being able to carry around a large number of books in a portable format is wonderful. I take mine to work, to bed, on the train, on the bus..absolutely anywhere and everywhere. All in all an excellent product and I am now fully converted to the world of ebooks and ereaders. This isnt to say that I will never buy another printed book but I can see that my visits to Waterstones will be limited for special hardbacks for my library collection.
