Entire ballet in a very good performance in average sound.

A very good performance. I still prefer the 2nd Suite with Markevitch. I also thought the sound wasn't very dynamic compared to the Markevitch. Recommended for hearing the entire ballet.

Rachmaninov Orchestral Works Jansons EMI Classical CD Set Like New

Great Performances, new insights, mediocre sound.

I find the performances are excellent with newly found details in the Symphonies. HOWEVER, the sound is rather greyish and bland. Compare this to the Wallenstien Symphony No.2 Capitol, Turnabout Johanos Symphonic Variations or even the recent Lugansky Paganini Variations. This recording is distant sounding and lacking in color, comparatively speaking. Again, I'm keeping this set for it's great performances by Jansons.
