Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter for Upgrade of 2013-2017 Macs (ST-NGFF2013C)
27 December 2018
Simple but effective adapter that allows upgrading of your MacBook's SSD storage
This was used successfully in conjunction with a Samsung EVO 970 500GB SSD to upgrade the 128GB SSD in an early 2015 Macbook Pro Retina 13" (A1502). The existing MacOS was Sierra (10.12), so it was upgraded to Mojave (10.14) first. This is essential to do first before you change the drives over. If you don't do this the EFI in these earlier versions of MacOS will prevent you from booting correctly with the new drive. I then preloaded a USB flash drive with Install MacOS Mojave from the App Store, opened the laptop, changed the drives over and booted into the USB flash drive to install MacOS. Everything went smoothly. Sleep functionality works perfectly fine. The only issue I came across was setting up dual booting Windows 10 (1809) with Boot Camp Assistant. Despite splitting the install.wim within in the ISO file as recommended online, it would still cause BootCamp Assistant to fail. I ended up, downloading the Windows Support Software manually using BootCamp Assistant onto a USB flash drive first, then partitioning the drive and installing Windows 10 manually. Finally I installed Windows Support Software and ran the Apple Software Update (in Windows 10) and everything worked as expected. Overall I am very happy with this adapter, the new drive is much faster and gives the laptop the impression of being new again.
