A well researched, relevant study of Odin
This book is very well written by an author who is deeply connected to his subject: Odin. Mr. Rudgley has the credentials and provides authoritative sources to back up his facts and theories about the original god of the European peoples. If you are a germanic neopagan or just a person interested in Germanic mythology, you will greatly appreciate this book. It is full of intriguing history and some fresh/novel theories on Odin's resurgence as locus of thought/devotion/imagination in the last 200 years in the Western world. Rudgley maintains a generally impartial attitude during the course of book, and addresses both the positive and darker aspects of the fascination/worship of Odin throughout history. Critical thinking abounds. This makes the book a good read for non-pagans as well...I highly suggest it to Judeo-Christian readers if they would care to open their minds and learn more about their non-Christian brethren...or more importantly, the history/lore behind the huge pagan influence beneath the surface of modern Christianity and the Church. A great read! Enjoy.
