Verlinden Goes Hollywood - A Good-For-Parts Kit
As a figure, this is a fine resin kit. The pose is a good one. It is, however, not accurate for the sort of character it is supposed to portray. This is straight out of Hollywood, not the Middle Ages. The cap is blatantly inaccurate, the boots are lace-up with heels, no less, and the costume took no effort, imagination, or research to be thrown together.
In all honesty, I purchased this kit to use the sword and its scabbard for parts in reworking another 120mm figure which was incomplete. My needs were met well, but it would take a genuine veteran modeler to bring this kit up to any degree of true accuracy.
As always, Verlinden's production level is very high, but their tendency toward somewhat cartoony effects in their figures is, in this particular case, a rather annoying disappointment.
Gilbert and Sullivan (Illustrated Lives of the Great Composers Series)

A Modern Major title - Indubitably!
As all of the titles in the excellent Lives of the Great Composers series, this is a major, very succinct edition on Gilbert and Sullivan. For what might have been a highly intimidating and potentially boring subject, this book makes research into what was a terrifically irreverant and ultimately fun-filled branch of opera both a pleasure and an educational enterprise of the highest order. Among many informative facets of a great book, perhaps the most useful are the synopses of all of the Savoy operas and their characters. Well done - I wholeheartedly recommend this book for a breathtaking journey into this complex, delightful, and lighthearted era of Victorian England's operatic past.

The "Images of War" series does it again!
For anyone truly interested in the details of the Imperial German Army on campaign, this book is of exemplary value. In picture after picture, most of which have seldom if ever been seen. the extraordinary efficiency of the German war machine is clearly and fascinatingly revealed. I cannot recommend this book more wholeheartedly. A+++!!!
