A return to Jayhawk form!
This album soars above Mark's previous solo records post-Jayhawks. The spirit here is just like the Jayhawks' 'Blue Earth' record, but with years of experience and travel adding depth to his songwriting, Mark has delivered on the promise he left us wishing for on his last appearance with them. Much more focused than the Creekdipper records with Victoria Williams and company, and with renewed energy from traveling the world recording the demos for these songs as he wrote them, he also brought back an impeccable violinist from Italy, and a woman backup singer/instrumentalist from Norway. These two fill out his sound here and on tour, giving them a sound similar to Alejandro Escovedo's Orchestra but with only 4 players. Highly recommended for fans of singer/songwriter Americana, and of course, the Jayhawks. Touring late summer 2007 in the USA, then in Europe, a band you won't stop thinking about after seeing/hearing them.

A delightful chemistry-imagine John Prine witih Crazy Horse...
Amazing! How this project came about isn't very widely known. Basically you have Vic Chesnutt's songs being broadened by arrangements expanded into a "band" context. The chemistry is awesome with members of Widespread Panic on board with Vic's songs. Where they are a "jam" band and he is a singer-songwriter, they both compliment each other. Vic brings focused and structured songs, while the Panic folks bring muscle to the arrangements. Two distinct forces that don't sound like they'd work on paper, but they sail a tide of great chemistry on these songs. Who knew??? On the U.S. CD there is a slightly electronic remix of the song "Blight" unlisted but added after some silence on the final track. On the European edition there is also an electric version of "Let's Get Down To Business" unlisted but added to the "Blight" remix.
