Well worth your money!
Illusion of Gaia is an overlooked classic for the SNES system. It is the second in the Soul Blazer series (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia both released in the US, and then Terranigma, released in the UK in PAL format). The story is interesting yet simple. You're a young boy named Will who was with his father on an expedition at the Tower of Babel. After his father disappeared, he woke up in his hometown not remembering anything. A few years later the game begins and Will, with his new psychic powers, starts off on a quest to find out what happened. What results of that is traveling through ancient ruins, battling challenging bosses, and losing and gaining friends, ultimately finding that he is the only hope for the world. You may even learn a song or two. ;) The gameplay is almost like the original Zelda games. You have an attack button and some special skills like moving objects with your mind and your flute. Let me say this now; the game will appear very easy up until the first boss. Boss battles are very difficult and require all of your skill to complete. This game is not for your average RPGer. You go through each ruin and a few towns collecting secret Red Jewels, Mystic Statues, and items as you travel. The graphics are really high for the SNES system and are just beautiful and stunning. The music is very well done, up to par with Final Fantasy III (VI). I highly reccomend this game to anyone looking for a unique RPG experience by ENIX, the creative minds behind STAR OCEAN and VALKYRIE PROFILE. You won't regret getting this game at its current Ebay price~

This one calls for the hardcore RPG player OR collector
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga (or Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner in Japan) is a great game. However, the run-of-the-mill RPG player should be warned: This isn't your average RPG. The difficulty level is high compared to most titles. The price the DDS1 Box Set can run you is well into the $90-$100 range at the time of writing this. The set includes the following: a soundtrack CD, a slipcover, the DDS1 game, and a box that holds both DDS1 and DDS2. You may see the very elusive Controller Sticker; that was a pre-order bonus only and isn't normally included in the set! That is because famous company ATLUS made this game in limited runs, though recently it has been reprinted without the extras or the memory card slot inside the case. The battle system is turn based, but the system is very innovative. Everyone has a weakness, although sometimes bosses don't. Battles require planning and preparation and you have to work to memorize things like "Agi" means fire, or Agidyne means a large, single fire attack (similar to Final Fantasy's Fire and Firaga). The music is a pleasant change of pace with alot of unique tracks that make this title stand out. Accompanied by some of America's top voice actors including Crispin Freeman and Yuri Lowenthal, this is a must have game for the die hard fan of Megaten games or someone looking for that challenging title.

An enjoyable old school romp through RPG land!
For those that played this on the Sega CD, you will be pleased to know the remake is just as good as the original. Some things were tweaked, but all of the things you love are still here: the cliche story, the awesome characters, the wonderful voice acting, and the same, turn based battle system of the original. Now defunct Working Designs made a great game here with plenty to see and do and well worth the effort to talk to everyone and take your time with the game. The voice acting is excellent, but the new option to turn the battle voices off may be the winner for some players, as they can get redundant, especially when battling the final boss! This game has just enough of a challenge for your average gamer while keeping the ones who are looking for a challenge intrigued with the bonus dungeon in the Epilogue. Go on an adventure to once again save the world of Lunar! And, for collectors, Working Designs has given you a treat! This game comes with 2 different disc art variants (Hiro, Ruby, Lucia variant is the more common, while Ronfar, Leo, and Lemina is much, much rarer!), a jeweled case that holds all 3 game discs and 1 Making-Of CD with interviews for both the American and US companies; a complete soundtrack with its own sleeve and a special "Omake" or "Extras" box that includes a paper map, a ton of character stand-ees, and a beautiful replica of Lucia's Pendant with it's very own pouch! And if all that wasn't enough, it is all housed in its own collectors packaging. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll even see Victor Ireland selling SIGNED copies! I highly reccomend this game to any RPG-lover! If you didn't play the Sega CD version, make it a mission to find the original if you loved this remake!
