Intel Q6700 Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz 8M Cache 1066MHz Processor (SLACQ)

Great upgrade for an old system, but manage your expectations
The Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 is an excellent upgrade for an Intel Core 2 system from 2006-2007, provided your system is compatible with it. This is the fastest-performing Kentsfield-class Core 2 Quad processor at 2.67 GHz so multi-threaded applications will immediately see a benefit since it brings 4 full cores to the table. Unfortunately, you are also getting what is now a CPU with 9 year-old technology. It is missing certain instruction sets like SSE4 and AES acceleration that only became available years after. It is also not very power efficient by today's standards. Installation is a bit tricky if you've never installed a CPU before, and you will need some thermal paste/grease as well as an adequate cooling solution (heat sink fan or liquid cooling) if you will be purchasing this as a bare CPU. The CPU is designed to pull 105 W of power so your power supply will need to be able to handle it along with the rest of the computer's components. Your motherboard should have the correct support for a quad-core processor as well. I installed this in an old Dell XPS 410 desktop and it works beautifully and should be good for tasks such as web browsing, retro gaming, and serving media as a Plex server.

Perfect upgrade for older systems
This processor is the perfect upgrade for older Pentium 4 and Pentium D systems on LGA 775 motherboards compatible with the Core 2 Duo. It works great on any system from 2006 and is perfect for building a "retro" Windows XP machine from that era.
