Great book for both younger readers and nostalgic thirtysomethings.
This book is a great adaptation for younger audiences, or for kids who saw the TMNT movie in theaters and never quite grew up. It's easy to read, easy to understand, and most people will be able to get through it in an hour or two.
If you've got kids if your own, this is a great companion piece to the movie, and even has some of the rougher edges of the movie softened for younger audiences; None of Raphael's "Damn!"s made it into the novelisation, for example. Maybe show your kids the movie, then hand them the book, using a story they already know to get them excited about reading?
For me, personally, this book brings back memories of feeling like I was tricking my second-grade teacher. I was reading, sure, but I was reading Ninja Turtles! Looking back on it from the perspective of a thirtysomething, I wasn't getting away with anything. But the memories came back, and I distinctly remembered some expository language from the book that isn't in the movie, giving some scenes slightly more meaning.
Anyways, I'm glad that I bought this book again. B.B. Hiller did a great job of adapting movies into books for young readers. I recommend this for anyone who read it as a kid, or who wants to share the full experience of being a kid in 1990 with their own kids, today.
