the gtx 295 is a bit old, but it makes for a good budget or beginners card.
the gtx 295 came out in 2009. even though it's 6 years old, it's still a good card to buy for light gaming. i've played gta 5 at 720p 60fps on this, and it held up pretty good most of the time. less intense games like minecraft and TF2 ran butter smooth at high settings. for new games like Far Cry 4 or Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, it might not fare as well, meaning you would have to tone your settings down. but otherwise, this is a good card for a budget build nowadays.

if you need a computer for gaming or business, then look elsewhere.
i bought this model laptop a year or so ago, and it's been great when it was working properly. the cmos battery died on me twice, and because it was soldered into the motherboard, i had to send it to dell to get the battery replaced. although it is working fine now. the nvidia graphics card has lots of customization options for a great viewing experience. the 1.5ghz core 2 duo processor, although low in today's standards, gets the job done. with Vista Home Premium, it was running slow when trying to multitask. but a quick edition of another gig of memory did the trick. i have since upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium, and it runs better. when using the laptop for maybe an hour or two, it can get pretty warm. and the fan doesn't always kick in when you'd expect it to. the battery also doesn't have the best lifespan. i got an extended battery, which lifts the rear of the laptop up a little bit for a better typing position, and to give the fan more air to suck in, although it's not that comfortable to have on your lap. personally, i would recommend this for those who just want a laptop that works from the start. i hear the cmos battery issue is uncommon, so that shouldn't be something to worry about. if you want to do anything progressive like business or gaming, then no. without the extended battery it won't last very long when you're on the go, and without some more memory it can lag doing office presentations or things similar to that.

a great old chip, but it's time to move on.
the pentium 4 is quite an old chip. but i find it's still good for basic tasks. if you can get a p4 chip with a higher clock speed (3.4ghz - 3.8ghz), then it would be good for doing online browsing or just typing up word documents. unfortunately, the pentium 4 is starting to become so old that it's no longer supported. to my knowledge, windows 10 will not work on a pentium 4 machine. and that's a shame. the p4 will be considered too old to use, and chips like the core 2 series will be considered "legacy" processors.
