Title is VERY MISLEADING...BE ADVISED.
Though I loved the author's book on Bakelite, I can not say the same for "Secrets to Collecting Jewelry". If you think you're going to find in this book a spectacular list of resources of finding vintage jewelry, you will be disappointed. This book is a less comprehensive book on the various types of vintage jewelry in the style of Warman's and Antique Trader. There is one small section in the beginning of the book that notes where you can find vintage jewerly: flea markets, estate sales, thrift shops, antique shops, online, and live auctions. The author then precedes to offer remedial instructions on how to bid at a live auction or asking for discounts. The remainder of the book is filled with pictures of vintage jewelry pieces and the prices, as well as various types of jewelry with definitions. I'm not quite sure how this applies to "sharing the secrets of collecting jewelry". The subtitle says, "How to buy more for less". DO NOT purchase this book if you're looking for a how to guide on finding vintage jewelry beyond the standard flea markets, estate sales, thrift shops, antique shops, online, and live auctions. Nice pictures but misleading title. Warman's and Antique Trader's Jewelry are the best resources for vintage jewelry. Be advised. -HH

Excellent for novice & seansoned lovers or antq.dealers
Like many antique jewelry lovers, the HH Dollhouse has many antique vintage jewelry pieces. This price guide is simply priceless. It gives buyers and dealers appraised values of pieces. Color pictures are offered throughout along with estimated values. Each chapter is separated by time periods: antique 1800-1920 (georgian, victorian, edwardian); 19th & 20th century costume jewelry; mid century modern (Art DECO, Nouveau); fine estate jewelry, & more. This guide was updated in 2007, offering fairly accurate appraisals. This book is huge time saver, especially if you are just learning the vintage antique jewelry trade. Happy reading.

Rhinestone heaven costume jewelry book
This book is an average to good guide on vintage jewelry books. It focuses heavily on rhinestone, crystal, and aurora borealis jewelry. There are a few interesting sections that I have not seen in other guide books: christmas and holiday costume jewelry, big & bold with focus on oversized vintage necklace pendants, copper section, enamel flower pin brooches. Be forewarned that many of the vintage jewelry is not attributed to specific jewelry artist or signed. If vintage jewelry designers are important to you, as they are to me then you will have to take the prices listed for the items in this book with a grain of salt. Signed vintage jewelry fairs better prices than unsigned works. Many of the pieces are from the author's personal collection and the prices listed do not seem in line with other guide books such as Warmans and Antique Trader. Pretty and detailed pictures but be advised to not use this as a price guide. Use merely as a resource reference book. -HH
