Great book of All environments
9 of 9 found this helpful This book was originally published by the US Army and was designed to inform someone in the military how to survive in any climate or environment that they find themselves within. Therefore, it is not very detailed. However it does give a person a good understanding of which plants are poisonous and what is safe to eat all over the planet. You will be able to keep yourself alive and nourished which is the key element in survival. You can eat all the rabbit you want and eventually you will die from malnutrition as they have very minute fat content. So this is an excellent field book. For anyone planning a backpacking or camping trip and I would strongly suggest that this go in your pack. The poisonous plants are marked and, as I was surprised to find out, many plants that have edible portions also have portions that are highly poisonous and deadly. The book has excellent color illustrations and photos to help a person learn to identify edible plants. The front section goes on to explain the different ways in which to ID a plant. They also include trees that are edible year round. For instance the internal area of birch bark in the spring makes a great flour or spaghetti substitute. It's an easy read and you will learn a lot.
So buy the book. I am already growing some of my own plants for harvesting later this year.

Mora Hi Q, big bang for the buck
I have about 4 Mora's in my collection and I just love them. They are of high quality craftsmanship, and parts. The blade in the Hi Q is Carbon which is great for keeping an edge and sharpens easily. I use my knives for work around my kitchen and around my camp. The Hi Q has a nice comfortable handle with a swell in the palm area. The blade is 4.1 inches long and comes from the factory razor sharp. It is great for slicing food, but remember that Carbon steel rusts easily if not cared for. So when you use the knife and are finished wipe it down, clean off any spots, and then lightly oil the blade. This particular model is now discontinued so if you want to grab a knife that is a huge bargain for the buck this is the knife to buy. I bought an extra and put it in my collection as I believe that they may be worth dough in a little while. It's light, easy to carry, has a molded plastic sheath that has stood up to all I have thrown at it, and looks good. Pick one up, as they are one of the little secrets of the bushcrafting crowd.

ESEE Knives come out with a folder
I have several ESEE knives and I love them all. They each have a specific purpose and I find them to be tough, functional, well made, and well designed. So when I saw that they had come out with an assisted folder I grabbed it.
It's all the things that the fixed blade ESEE's are. It is razor sharp, holds an edge, high carbon, and I bought a black model and they are a gorgeous knife. Reasonably priced for an ESEE, and built to last a long time, this is now my new EDC. For years I have carried a SOG Vulcan, Ontario Rat 1, or one of the new Emerson/Kershaws. These are all excellent, excellent knives. But for a while, I am going to give the Avispa a shot, and so far it is working great. Buy one NOW. You won't regret it.
