Old Technology
These lights have been around since the early 50s. They work fine and last forever but their design is out of date.

Versatile switch tracks
The 5137 switches (5138 & 5139) are particularly versatile because they allow parallel tracks that are closer together than is possible with the regular switches. I am replacing my seven track classification yard with a nine track yard and the new yard will be half an inch narrower!
Marklin switches are very durable. I have some that are 60+ years old and are used at least weekly. They still work fine and show no signs of wearing out. There are now over 80 switches on my layout and none has ever failed.

Overpriced, poorly cast, hard to assemble, disappointing result
This model would be on the expensive side even if it was assembled. Preparing the parts for assembly underscores the poor quality of the castings. Assembling those parts is awkward at best. Decorating the interior, wheels and brushes before assembly is the only option. The resulting vehicle is completely static, the wheels cannot rotate, and the brushes are metal castings, not pliable brushes, reinforcing my assessment that the kit is overpriced.
