Rastus Ravel (is ripped off) and rides again – 43 years later ...
0 of 1 found this helpful Larry Page, producer of The Kinks and The Troggs, released the (original) Heatwave single, 'Sister Simon (Funny Man)' b/w 'Rastus Ravel (Is A Mean Old Man)', on his Penny Farthing Records label in November 1970.
Greg Smith (British Music Archive) submitted a copy of this Penny Farthing Records single, PEN 738, from his own record collection as part of a proposed track listing for a 2013 compilation project to; Steven Carr, Red River Exports Ltd. (distributor) / Particles (record label).
As a result, 'Rastus Ravel' was re-released April 2013 as track 4 on the 20-song Particles compilation CD.
August 2013, Larry Page, who owns sole rights to the songs, told Heatwave drummer, "I've never licensed the song(s) since 1970, I've never heard of the record company Particles and I've never heard of Steven Carr or Red River Exports."
So, it seems, it is stolen property and neither the band nor Larry Page will see any royalties!
