A great imagination makes it a great game
Star Wars: Rebellion came out in 1998, the year that saw releases of some of the best PC video games ever released. Star Wars: Rebellion was not one of them, but read on.
I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid and bought this with my hard-earned allowance the day it appeared on the shelf. I was envisioning a sweeping command of an entire universe, but had a few windows, a lot of text, and the occasional 3D space battle presented instead. It was a glaring disappointment and quickly forgotten in favor of Half-Life and Baldur's Gate.
Many years later (a month or so ago) I suddenly remembered this game and decided to give it another chance. I bought the CD, popped it into an old 2000-era system, and the familiar fanfare blasted out of the speakers.
Star Wars: Rebellion is a game that demands your imagination, but in a good way. You might be commanding the Empire, discover Chewbecca on Yavin, and have a decision to make: Do you dispatch a fleet to blockade and bombard the planet in hopes of killing the Wookie hero? Perhaps you might stealthily dispatch Imperial commandos on an assassination or capture mission instead.
With a good imagination Star Wars: Rebellion crafts a hundred different movies in your mind (think 'Rogue One' when you dispatch an espionage mission) and each new universe, being random, is a fresh experience.
Star Wars: Rebellion is also available digitally, but I was happy to have a physical copy just as I used to. Give this game a try and let it inside your head a little. You'll find you're enjoying this game more than you expected.
