Meddle - remastered
I first heard it a long time ago on a secondhand cassette ( official release with insert included). Listening now, to this, a remastered CD version, is like having the wax removed from your ears and your concentration focussed like shaving with old fashioned razor.
It is a great tragedy that often it takes a fully functioned remastering to really appreciate the author’s original concept, often distorted by limitations of the physical recording media at the time. That’s why purchasers of this CD are usually those who appreciate the difference between even modern compressed streaming and the purity that is a CD be it even an AAD or a DDD.
The caveat is that you need the right system and components to experience this with, or you may as well be listening to a live rock concert through the outside wall of the theatre. But.. when you do have the right bits, this CD and a plethora of other great masters and remasters will put you into a place you do not want to compromise any time later.
This remastered version doesn’t come in a pretty CD case. At first glance it looks like a knock off you might find in a Sunday market. But look past that and don’t let the packaging demean the audio quality. You also get the extra booklet that comes from the original Floyd covers art master, just to add visually to your eyes what your ears are telling you is the real deal.
As a possible Pink Floyd fan, Meddle may not be to your taste. Try the remastered version of Dark Side Of The Moon then. And start a journey you will not want to end.
