Better base models and more inspiring sounds than a Big Sky
The dual reverb engine mode really piqued my interest on this one. I owned a Big Sky for a few years. Loved the Bloom, Magnetic, and Cloud sounds in it. Thought the shifts in the Shimmer were the best out there and a good solid reverse. The traditional (room, hall, plate, spring) modes didn't blow me away. Perhaps I was too used to the verbs from Yamaha rack units growing up. Decided to let go of it a couple months ago and have had the Ventris in my sites. Couldn't be happier from a sonic perspective, and I haven't even tried hooking it up to the desktop version of the Neuro app to try any of the newer engines.
Those traditional models sound better. The spring is much better. She shifted tones with it's Shimmer maybe aren't quite as nice, but I actually prefer the sound of that model with the shift off and the regen maxed.. it get's me close to Bloom and Cloud (particularly when you start to pair it with other reverb engines in the A+B mode). Just love it. So huge sounding.
I might miss the number of presets from the Big Sky (and maybe Magnetic -- though I need to see if any of the new algo's in the app might cover the ground)... but that's mainly because I'm finding so many of my own sounds with the dual mode that I want to save off. I don't think I ever created my own presets on the Big Sky. Guess I'll have to get a small midi controller for it... but I can deal with it. Sonically this is much more inspiring to me.
