(blemished) Mepro 21 / Meprolight 21 M21 illuminator (REM 21)
10 March 2021
Still good and usable, even with the minor flaw
The index mark is just a little bit off from perfect alignment, but I can live with that. It does help with shooting from dark areas into light. When on, there is a glow visible from the left side that should be dealt with before using. I think some black tape might fix the issue.
Steiner DBAL-I2 PEQ-2 Infrared Laser IR LED Illuminator Black 9007 IN STOCK!!
20 April 2021
Nothing else comes close
I hunt pigs at night, with NVGs. A standard red laser is ok for dusk, but is much too bright to use with high-quality NVGs. This IR laser has two brightness settings which are perfect. The IR illuminator also has two brightness settings, and both work far better than an IR flashlight. This unit is a military device now available to the public. It mounts easily to my top picatinny rail, and doesn't interfere with sighting through my Eotech reflex sight. The laser and illuminator are completely invisible to the human, and animal, eye. You need NVGs to use this, but nothing else on the market comes close to this weapon-mounted sighting system. It's like cheating.
Timney 520-CE-16 Remington 700 Calvin Elite Trigger Nickel - NEW
23 October 2015
An essential component for a long-range rifle
I have built a long-range Rem 700 target rifle in .308. The gunsmith did some work on the existing (stock) trigger, and it was about as good as a stock trigger could be. But during the first few times to the range, I still found myself watching the crosshairs wobble all over the center of the bull as I was applying pressure to that trigger. I didn't have any real control over the timing of the shot. Sometimes I was able to hold the crosshairs on the center long enough for the pressure on the stock trigger to release the shot at the right spot, but sometimes it would wobble off the spot at the time the shot actually fired. This created some "fliers" in my otherwise excellent groups. It was soon obvious to me that the rifle was shooting well, and I was using good techniques, but the weak point in the system was clearly the trigger. After doing some on-line research on upper-level trigger systems, I settled on Timney triggers. They were the best value for the dollar, and have been the gold standard for fifty years. Fortunately, Timney has given it's main design engineer, Calvin Motley, the opportunity to design his own "dream trigger". The Calvin Elite trigger is the reality behind that dream. The internal parts are redesigned, polished to a mirror finish, coated with a special substance that maintains precision, and even the safety works differently. Out of the packaging, the high level of workmanship and precision is obvious. It is beautiful and elegant, and it seems a shame to hide it inside the stock. Because of an improved design, the Calvin Elite installs much easier than the stock trigger. And it is supremely adjustable - to as light as a half-pound. I installed the trigger on the rifle with the settings from the factory intact. I found no need to adjust from settings that I did not know. As it turned out, I would have no need to make any such adjustment. I took the rifle, complete with Timney Calvin Elite installed, to the range just a few days ago, to continue testing some experimental target loads. The first round's let-off surprised me, because the trigger was much more responsive than the old one, but the bullet ran true because I kept my finger off the trigger until the sight was on the target. The let-off is crisp, with no take-up, and no overtravel. With just a few rounds downrange, I found I could now easily chose the exact time of the bullet's flight, without jerking the trigger and pulling the shot. So, if you are converting from a standard trigger, some "ramp up" is necessary to get the best results. I was delighted that I had the ability now to apply much less pressure to the trigger and be confident that the round would fly precisely when I wanted it to fly. And in longer range shooting, when you control the "when", you also control the "where", because you can fire the shot precisely when the crosshairs are on the right spot. My confidence in my new long range target rifle has increased dramatically. The missing component - the essential component - to the system is now in place, and I believe the rifle is finally "finished". Members of the long range shooting forums have said how much difference a good trigger makes. What they said was not sufficient to capture the reality. Once you shoot with a Timney Elite, you will be spoiled. It doesn't matter if you never shoot in a competition, but only hunt at longer ranges. If you want to take game at longer ranges, you need to control the timing and location of the shot as well. Spend the extra money. It's worth it.
