Two words........THE BEST
4 of 4 found this helpful Just read the reviews and read the book and work through the student manual......THE BEST. As an electrical engineer who graduated and really knew nothing about the art of circuit design, but plenty about the mathematics and physics...even quantum physics, this book made all of that theory come together in such a pragmatic way. I can honestly say now that I can use what I know, where I was worried before.
Speaking to those who may be concerned about the 'high-level' language in a textbook written for students at Harvard, please don't worry. This text was written in such a way that even those Liberal Arts fa$s can read and understand it. :) Seriously though, it is a very plain-language text that gives a 'feel' for what you are doing rather than telling you what you should know.
In my honest opinion, you must purchase and discipline yourself to work through the student manual. Yes, it is more money, and yes, the text is great by itself compared to ANYTHING else out there, but it is like having apple pie and apple pie with ice cream....each is great by itself, but the two together are like fine art....hmmmmmm
You can't do better than this.... really

The End-all Be-all for the Aspiring Electronic Tinkerer
4 of 4 found this helpful This is the student manual that is intended to speak in more explanative language and examples, the concepts from the Second Edition of the "Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill. In my honest opinion, being an electrical engineer, no book of contemporary or historical status can compare to the 'real-world', 'real-language' approach of this text and manual. If you buy the book, you must have the student manual and you must sit down with pencil and paper and work through things for the nuances and techniques of circuit design to reveal themselves to you.
From experience, you may need to work through this text a couple of times to really glean all that you can from the terseness of some sections. I rate this the greatest book on learning electronics and circuit design....bar none!!

Well written for those who need training wheels
1 of 1 found this helpful This book is well written in a relaxed and even jovial method. Many examples lead to a clear understanding as to why the programming language requires certain things. I am glad that I purchased it and it has helped a great deal in making my personal websites better than ever.
