Average Adventure drags down Great Premise
This is the game that "Castlevania Adventure" should have been, with the exception of the maddeningly frustrating climbing/bat sections this game is solid (unlike the broken mess of "Adventure") and in spots very fun. The problem and criticism surrounding this title comes when you realize that not only did this game have to directly follow two masterpieces of the series, "Belmont's Revenge" also on the gameboy, and "Symphony of the Night" on the PSX, Both of which it pales next to in comparison save for story, where hands down it still beats "Revenge". The Good- Excellent origin story for the series (much more interesting than the predictable yawn-fest of "Lament of Innocence") 80% solid gameplay (those darn bats ruin the whole game for many) and it is one of the last "ClassicVanias" before the series went into a spiral of endlessly cloning SOTN or "MetroidVania" style gameplay in all 2D entries. The Bad- The story is no longer canon (IGA, director of the series, really dropped the ball here as a proper remake of this game I cannot help but think would have been much more fun than "Lament"). The gameplay is not as finely tuned as most other Classic CV titles. Dull, largely empty backgrounds, average and below sprite work, and a mostly average soundtrack give the impression that the creators had a wonderful story and not the will to execute/tell it properly, so that a mediocre game rests where a masterpiece should be. ..And those darn BATS! All in all I would rate this a slightly below average classic Castlevania (putting aside the story, which is excellent and far superior to the mold of just "Dracula has awoken (early) go kill him again." of most CV games) and a slightly above average action game for the gameboy. This does not warrant the huge price tag attached to the game these days however, and to all but obsessive CV completests I would recommend the terrific "Belmont's Revenge" instead, which usually costs about half as much and is a better game overall.

Will require a little work to run on modern PCs.
First I just wanted to say to anyone considering purchasing this game that because of it's extreme (in terms of computer advancement) age you will need to get a source port to run it on a modern PC. What's a source port? In this case it means a port of the DOOM Engine on which the game is built, along with several other games such as Doom/II and Heretic's spin-off "Hexen". As of this writing I would recommend "Skulltag" as the easiest Doom source port to set up and use, though there are many available and they are all free. It's not nearly as complex as it may sound and there are tons of FAQ lists, a Doom wiki, and many message boards if you need help. Now, about the actual game itself. Heretic is a classic FPS in the vein of the original "Doom"/"Doom II" in that it uses 2D sprites, and rendering to create the illusion of actual 3D. Most of the game entails running through maze-like settings, killing tons of baddies and looking for keys to open new doors. No escort missions or anything like that, just you, your weapons and a whole bunch of monsters standing in the way of your next objective. Any puzzles in the game are pretty basic, and again most only consist of finding key X for door Y to get to location Z. But the monsters increase in number and are increasingly tough as you progress through the game. For people who enjoy this type of challenge Heretic's fantasy trappings should be a welcome breath of fresh air from Doom and many other FPSs Science Fiction setting. The graphics are good for the time, but of course using 2D sprites for enemies means that the game shows it's age. So basically, if you like DOOM you'll probably like this. If you didn't like Doom this won't change your mind about this style of gameplay.

One of the Greatest Unintentional Comedies Ever Made
I find myself at a loss, my paltry words far too inadequate to describe the opus of ineptitude one witnesses upon placing this DVD in their player. Confusing, cheap, rushed, literally translated and poorly acted, all these descriptions spring to mind when trying to sum up the glorious mess of "Garzey's Wing". But this mini-series is more than the sum of those parts, which combine into a perfect storm of cinematic failure. The original Japanese scriptwriters could have learned a lot about pacing and exposition from Ed Wood, and the English voice actors could have learned almost as much about their craft. If you enjoy cinematic cheese you OWE it to yourself to watch this mini-series, preferably with friends. In summation- best single cent purchase I have made, and likely will ever make, on eBay.
