Sort of OK

Beam quality is lovely with regard to colour and spread. It is totally even and covers a wide area which is nice but means it is not good for more than a few metres - it is not long range. It is a totally different beam from many LED ligthts which have a bright centre then abrupt and uncomfortable changes in brightness. The batteries don't last very long on full power and replacing them is a bit fiddly. (I didn't time it but at a guess, 1100 mah rechargeable batteries would last less than 12 hrs on fully power) Build quality is quite good.

Very poor picture

Cheap but terrible quality. 1280 x 960 @ 30 FPS (which is what the footage I have from it is) sounds good but it is not as the picture is not clear. Footage at a fraction of the resolution but clear would be more use. Reading a number plate - even quite close - would not be possible. Some parts of the frame are clearer that others. Mine is terrible on the right hand side. The interface is fine and it works OK but the quality of the video matches the low price. Another problem is the infra red night vision. All the LEDs switch on if this feature is chosen, but they are so dull that their useful range is only about one metre so yes, it has night vision, but range is so so low that it is hard to think of an example when it would be useful.

At last a rat trap that catches rats

Rats are very difficult to trap - the opposite extreme to mice. I've had no success with the plastic rat traps and find the cages hard work and slow. These are fantastic though. I steeped in mud overnight, then handle only with gloves and use lard on the bait plate and nearby and put some wheat nearby and on the lard - and bobs my uncle. Strangely they kill as many as they catch - I've had more lying dead next to a sprung trap than in it. I suppose it must hit them on the head and propel the trap away from them as it closes. I must try weighting the base. The spring is stronger than you'd think. I think rats like these as they are a natural material and they don't have to go under or into anything.
