NEW GoPro GPCHDHX-502 Hero5 Black Edition
31 January 2018
An absolutely amazing camera that takes abuse and is more useful than people realise.
This thing is still running! Bought back in early 2018 (now mid-2023) and it's been white-water rafting, cycling, snowboarding, and not lightly either. I've abused the batteries, over-tensioned the official (but sold separately) straps and mounts, and nothing has given out. Out of the box (no upgrades to firmware) it's still supported by the phone app if you've strapped it somewhere hard to reach/see but you want to control it or preview what it is looking at. The first of the gopros to feature waterproofing without a case and the 240fps footage works great. It's an amazing camera, and with a usb-c to micro-hdmi capture card setup it continues use in working-from-home as a brilliant webcam. Don't throw out the little mount it comes in glued to the box, you can rip it off and double-sided tape it to anything you want for free! I've strapped mine to the top of my monitor and use a usb mains adapter for power.
CASIO G-SHOCK G-STEEL, GSTS110D-1A GST-S110D-1A, SOLAR, STEEL BEZEL BAND

An excellently built, robust digital watch with motored analogue dial
My needs were very specific, I do parkour so wanted a rugged watch (g-shock), but I prefer analogue watch faces, and I much prefer metal to rubber bands. Well this watch is a rare find indeed and I'm happy to say it fulfills all needs and then some! After years of abuse it only has a few dents and still works amazingly, and thanks to the solar charging it still hasn't needed a battery (bought late 2016, it's now mid 2023). Being a digital watch (with a motorised analogue display in place of an lcd; instead of being a mechanically-powered watch) it has the usual cool casio features like you punching in daylight-savings or your current city whilst travelling and the watch auto-updates the time without you manually looking it up! It is bulky, and the band has large link sections so it's hard to get it to perfectly match your wrist, but the niche this fills more than makes up for that.
