    Love the series
We bought Explorers on the Moon in English to help us work on our French, by comparing the English and French versions side by side. What a kick! It's a great learning tool because you can see how non-literal a translation can be. Some passages could have been from two different books, they were so different. The Tintin stories are also just plain fun. The main character is a young guy who, in French, is sometimes described as a boy but is also a young reporter. Wiki says this about the series: "The series has been admired for its clean, expressive drawings in Hergé's signature ligne claire ("clear line") style... Its well-researched...plots straddle a variety of genres: swashbuckling adventures with elements of fantasy, mysteries, political thrillers, and science fiction. The stories feature slapstick humour, offset by dashes of sophisticated satire and political or cultural commentary."
Dedalus European Classics: The Golem by Gustav Meyrink (2000, Paperback)

    A Literary Puzzle
Meyrink's "The Golem" is written as a puzzle whose pieces may not satisfactorily fit together for a perfect picture. But the language is often beautiful (at least in translation) and the portrayal of Ghetto life and of some peoples' flirtation with the mystical makes for a compelling read. I would not recommend it for people who want a linear narrative or for those who want "down-to-earth", easily understood story telling.

    Not Thorn Proof But Good
I used to buy a different brand that cost more. Fortunately, that brand seems not to be around anymore, which led me to G & F. These work well and just as well as the more expensive ones. Neither kind entirely keep out thorns, even small ones. One reviewer I read said to wear a thinner pair of gloves underneath and that worked to protect fully from thorns. I don't know if these will wear longer than other gloves but they are at least as sturdy in appearance. Given the few options, I am happy with these.
