ZDDP Maxxximum protection
4 of 4 found this helpful I did not realize the need for zinc and phosphorous additives in an older vehicle. I have a 1998 Lexus GS400 that has been greatly modified with twin turbos and a larger cam. After 4 years, I decided to tear down the engine to do a little more upgrading and noticed that the cams were pitting. It was then that I was told by different builders that the need for the zinc was to protect the metal from initial start up and friction before lubrication was finally attained.
The synthetic oils and even regular "dino" oil have essentially no zinc or phosphorous. After my second build, I have been adding ZDDP Maxx with every oil change.
The cams were inspected after 2 years and show no sign of wear. Great product!
thanks
