"AS NEW" The Eleven-Plus Book: Genuine Exam Questions from Yesteryear (Gift), ,

A marvellous collection. This little blue book beats the Little Red Book!
At the time I took my 11+ I didn't realise the way it would change my life chances. As far as I can remember there was no hullabaloo about taking the test, no tutors employed by my parents to improve my score, and we certainly didn't move home to boost my chances of going to a better school - but then it was the mid 60s and in those days there wasn't so much political interference in the process - the system was designed to fit round pegs in round holes. It was only later that the 11+ became a political football and, perversely, stopped able children like me born on a council estate from benefitting from a grammar school education. I have enjoyed perusing the individual tests and wonder how today's so-called 'snowflakes' would compare to my generation when we concentrated on the 3Rs rather than homosexuality and gender fluidity. School was simple and, if you will pardon the pun, unadulterated by adults wishing to spout their own agendas rather than focusing on the basic life skills required by 5 to 11 year old children.

The cats like it and I save money. A real win-win.
With two house-trained cats, I was buying two/three bags from Tesco every month - they demand a tidy box so I change the pellets fairly often. Lockdown seemed to cause Tesco supply problems as my local store never had any stock for weeks. I tried sawdust - it's ok, but messy. I Googled 'wood pellets' and found this supplier with a good record. I ordered a 15 litre bag. It arrived quickly. The cats haven't objected so it must be ok. I've knocked off one point because the smell isn't quite as pleasant - I can't believe I just typed that given what goes in the box! Will I re-order - yes!

Worth a second chance!
These work well in most situations, holding reasonable loads - I always use enough strips to allow for double the weight being suspended. I've only given 4 stars because (and beware) they don't appear to perform so well in hot conditions. Last year I put up some paper blinds in my conservatory. The velcro pads were ok but the sticky sides lost their strength in the heat, causing the blinds to fall to the floor. I'm giving them another go this year. If they fail I'll have think of having proper (expensive) blinds fitted.
