Balzac is the most brilliant writer that ever lived.

Used as generally descriptive of his belle chansons.Actually the title used is not one of his great songs,but the disc is loaded with other great ones
Excellent selection of Aznavour chansons from his best period the 50's and early 60's.A very interesting and informative booklet is included with the cd.

Vatel. The so called chef.
A French historical film acted out,except for Gerard Depardieu,by a poor cast of English speaking actors. It is hard to believe that a film about food could be boring,but this Communist film ignores the preparation and serving of food to royalty in 17th century France and spends 1 hr. 42 min. grinding the Communist axe. The heroine in this Communist inspired film,Uma Thurman,is of course incredibly ugly. Roberto Rossellini made an excellent film about this period,The Taking Of Power By Louis XIV. It is too bad that the producers of this film did not watch it or learn anything from it.
