Great bargain for a decent phone. Amazing ergonomic design, good 3G phone if you can find one cheap!
This phone is a phone that you would take on holiday or to use as a cheap smartphone, with no apps or app sideloading due to the Microsoft WP7 SDK server being down which won't let you install the SDK, which lets you sideload apps. In other words, yes that design is odd but it has the perfect grip in the hand. The keyboard on the phone is great for big fingers too being really accurate and having a decent autocorrect. The camera is surprisingly decent and you could use it as a cheap on the go phone camera (5MP). It can act as a email machine for Gmail, Exchange and act as an MP3 player and MP4 player from the Zune app too. It also can be a basic Calendar without email sync etc. Other apps include Internet Explorer 9 (you can use Bing and Google just fine), calculator and maps.

Great Price and Great Phone!
The Lumia 435 is a good choice as a basic phone for a kid or just a backup. Just like the Lumia 520, it is a bargain and is worth it. In fact I have bought 3 as they are so good. Fully recommended and great phone to experiment with too! Thanks, Leo.
