The Shop on Main Street
The story line is great. The two main characters enhance each others performance. All the Jewish businesses are to be given to good Aryans. Josef Kroner is to be the of a small button shop. The owner Ida Kaminska is in her eighties and is losing her sight and hearing. The Nazis post a list of all the Jews in the town to be hauled away and taken to concentration camps. Mrs. Lautman is not on the list. She is old and may die soon. Should he inform the Germans that her name is not on the list. If he doesn't then will he have to suffer the consequences. He has to do plenty of sole searching.
What happens? See this wonderful film. It was the first Czechoslovakian film to be nominated for an oscar. Ida was also nominated for an oscar. I never tire of watching this wonderful film.
