Does the job, but is supplied with dangerous power cable
2 of 2 found this helpful It's a fairly sturdy plastic box, into which you slip a SATA hard drive. The drive can only meaningfully fit in one way, and then you just tighten the four (supplied) screws to fix it in place. The lid then slips and clips into place to seal it all into a reasonably good looking unit.
A USB3 cable is supplied inside the box, which is of reasonable length and looks sturdy.
There are zero printed instructions, but I don't really feel any are needed: there are fee subtleties or ambiguities here.
The box cover mentions a blue Led to indicate power, which turns red when reading or writing. True enough... but the pinhole through which the Led shines is so tiny, it is barely visible whatever colour it's displaying. It is also on the top of the case, not the front, so is not visible unless you stand over it. Its lack of real functionality doesn't really bother me though.
Disk transfer speeds are good and what you'd expect for a hard drive over USB3.0...No complaints there at all.
My biggest problem with this product is the supplied power cable. It has a molded slimline UK plug attached - which means it isn't fused and is thus inherently unsafe to use in the UK. Other countries' electrical supplies are organised differently and so a non-fused plug there might not be a problem. But in the UK, with our high amperage ring main systems, it is a total no-no.
You will therefore need to budget for the supply of a properly fused figure-8 power cable, which makes this slightly less good value than it looks. Either that, or take the risk of your house burning down!
Overall impression is that I'm glad to have bought it, and I now have a use for a 3TB hard drive that was otherwise going to waste. I just wish China would stop supplying things with death-trap UK power leads!

Poor single-threaded performance, but brilliant multi-threaded upgrade
What's not to like: 20 threads, 10 cores! Well, for single-threaded tasks, this 2.8GHz base-clocked CPU was a significant downgrade from my previous 3.7GHz (4-core, 8-thread) Xeon 1620 processor. But I'm not complaining. The extra thread-overhead means I can virtualize comfortably, and even the base down-clock doesn't seem quite so bad in single-threaded tasks (probably because of the increased L3 cache). For raw performance on one thread, this is not the CPU you are looking for (*waves hands*), but I'm pleased I made the move.
