It's more about me than I was willing to absorb before reading this book.
1 of 1 found this helpful ~I bought this book after I heard the authors and an interviewer discussing its message. I needed and wanted to learn more about thriving, not just surviving. I found it an excellent resource of information for people of faith in difficult marriages who are looking for more than hope.
~The focus on growing in the area of changing one's self, not one's spouse, is critical. This has not been the easiest reality for me to adjust to. Changing one's self does not mean being a doormat with a spouse who behaves badly in words and deeds, and who likely neither desires to change, nor is able to change. It means discovering, dedicating, and applying one's self to learning about what makes you a stronger and more balanced person, and becoming more adept in engaging in life productively and in ways desireable to yourself and others.
~I was reminded that there might be a "bigger reason" why I felt confused, stuck and ambivalent, and I was reminded that doing the right thing is more important than my happiness. Growing in my walk with God, and learning to know him better are vital to my personal joy. Growing in peace and contentment as I continue to apply challenging ideas and principles to my life is just one of the gems I found within these pages. This can be your experience too!
