Not what you expect!
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this book because of the cover and the synopsis sounded interesting. Wow, did I get this one wrong!! You definitely CANNOT judge a book by it's cover!! This book would've been more aptly titled "My Dysfunctional Family and Everone's Lack of a Vocabulary".
I was so excited to listen to this book and was so sure it would be great that it was the only one I had with me for the night so I kept listening, thinking it had to get better - it couldn't possibly get ANY worse! It started out decent then took a nose dive with a few good parts here and there (and I'm being kind here). I wish I had the hours back that I lost listeneing to this entire book.
I read a lot of other reviews after I finished it and they were all mixed so there were people that actually enjoyed this book but I'm not one of them. I was expecting a book about a vet, the animals he treated and how he found love again, I expected a lighthearted, heartwarming love story with a little sadness in there - instead I got a complete disappointment...

Heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time
I listen to hundreds of books a year since I drive at least 6 hours every night. I was so happy to find Charles Martin! His books are thought provoking, honest, real, heartwarming and sometimes heartbreaking. Charles is obviously an author with character and integrity and his books portray this. I love when an author doesn't feel the need to fill up sentences with swearing or other vulgarities.
Chasing Fireflies is one of my favorite Charles Martin books. It's well written and the narration from Chase's point of view is excellent! I'd recommend this book (and any of his others) to anyone that enjoys an amazing story with a well thought out plot and very interesting characters.

Another awesome book by Dean Koontz!
This is my favorite book by Dean Koontz. It deals with rescue and that's something that's very close to my heart. There is no shortage of dogs in shelters and there are WAY TOO MANY greedy breeders. The story in itself is compelling and very well written. His books often deal with good versus evil and this one is no exception. The narrator for this audiobook was excellent and did all the voices flawlessly. This book is definitely a must read/listen in my opinion.
