aspirational pants
I cant afford Eileen Fisher so this is a real treat -- totally new, fits well except a bit long (that's my fault, i should be taller). suitable for a fairly wide range of moderately dressy to moderately non-dressy occasions. Very wrinkle-resistant, though not infinitely. Very happy.

Rendell never fails.
Almost always delighted with Rendell, highly recommend--even knowing the basic outcome, every sentence is tense, compelling. The extreme characters she writes about, although unusual, are totally believable and fascinating.

Provides the expected period atmosphere but a bit plodding
This is one of a series of mysteries set in post-WWI England. If you're a fan of the series you'll probably be OK with this installment. This was my first Todd book and probably not the best one to start with. It's adequate; good at some things like maintaining the style and flavor of the era and of murder mysteries of the era, rather dull as to procedure, incident, character. (Unimportantly, the authors sometimes have a maddening way with pronouns, such that you have to stop and reread a sentence 8 times to figure out who "he" refers to each time.) I finished it.
