Faulty amp, a true lemon
1 of 1 found this helpful As received, the amp hummed too much, way above the tolerable level. On the test bench, the 1st discovery was that the power transformer was faulty (one half of the high voltage winding was disconnected, so only one half was used) and the transformer was overheating. There was too much ripple on the DC power supply line.
Problem#2: one channel's output transformer was very different in terms of its DC Resistance and impedance, as if someone forgot one winding layer or a whole section.
Problem #3: One channel was thus louder.
We had to rewind the power transformer, something most user could not do, so for that reason alone I would not recommend this amp to anyone!

The 220V heater burned out after 4 months on our 245V ...
3 of 3 found this helpful The heater burned out after 4 months, it was designed for 220V mains voltage not for 240-250V in Australia!

The most overated tube tester ever
0 of 4 found this helpful 1. the most over-complicated tester of all.
2. poor quality components used, many drifted over the years
3. PCB brittle and prone to cracking
4. pitting of steel surface, screen printed controls rub off very easily
5. difficult to calibrate
6. does not show true mutual conductance
7. no choice of testing point (bias is auto-adjusted until anode current reaches one of 3 set levels, all very low)
8. low test voltage
9. just a quick tube checker, very far from laboratory standard
10. way overvalued on 2nd hand market
