"Cheap, good looking, and it works"
MPPT solar controllers are generally pretty expensive, and are so for good reason. They're smarter and therefore more complicated. So a $30 MPPT solar controller is likely to raise a lot of doubt. The unit that arrived was better quality and much heavier than expected thanks to its metal frame. The plastic facia is sturdy and well presented, the control buttons are extremely tactile and the LCD display is bright, crisp and easy to read even in low light.
The user manual however, is fairly typical for this sort of purchase. A single sheet of paper on one side with what appear to be ancient hieroglyphs only the Chinese can understand, while to other side is in somewhat broken English that will likely result in some head scratching. For anyone who has even a basic knowledge of how solar controllers work however it won't be too difficult to get the unit up and running, and the unit is user adjustable once to learn how to navigate your way round.
Would I recommend one? Well, so far yes. If you're looking for a solar controller that wont break the bank then this unit is very much worth closer inspection. It is certainly great value for money considering its features. As for its longevity, only time will tell but it is much better quality than you might expect and for only 30 dollars you can't really go too far wrong.
