There must be better reads out there, but it's a plug for a hole in one's sci-fi education that must be plugged.
Pacy storytelling. Interesting alternate past/future posited. Not-so-hidden universal wisdom is being imparted. On the downside, somewhat cardboard characters, and the novel's age shows.
