Erratic results

I've tried replacing batteries, rebooting and reinstalling but it still gives random readings. I really want it to work. Its a great idea, saving me long walks uphill to test the tank level but I shouldn't have to figure out if it has a fault or if my instal is wrong (unlikely). It should just work. So far reply from supplier after 2 emails.
