1884-S Morgan
I'm pleased with the overall quality and appearence of this coin. I will seriously consider sending it to a Third Party Grading Service.

SLQ's Only 90% Silver but 100% Collectible or Searching for a Numismatic Bigfoot
1 of 1 found this helpful Standing Liberty Quarters in any condition present an opportunity for the aspiring Numismatist or the veteran coin collector to pursue their hobby on many levels. Minted for a relatively short time from 1916 through 1930 there are a manageable number of date and mint combinations to gather to fill a coin folder. The only real drawback to the series is that the first coin minted the 1916 is extremely rare in any condition and requires a stroke of luck or deep pockets to acquire. I've solved that problem by filling that hole with a nice collectible TYPE 1 coin facing reverse out. As time passes I keep my eyes out for the best examples I can find of all the other dates like this nice 1927-P that's in fine condition and I'm always hopeful that someday I'll find that elusive 1916 SLQ.

Making the Grade
1 of 2 found this helpful I just received Photograde by James Ruddy, published by Whitman and I've already put it to good use. My 1798 Flowing Hair penny grades better than I thought and that knowledge alone has more than paid for the book and shipping. Although the book has been around for almost twenty years it's still relevent. It's been updated several times since the original 1990 edition so it's up to date for most of the circulated coins where grade makes up a significant portion of value. This is important because you are dealing with a circulated coin and the many shades of circulated as opposed to modern coins mass produced in uncirculated or proof for the collector market.
The book's easy to follow and with a little practice even the novice can become skilled enough to recognise better coins from numismatic junk.
The one drawback is the illustrations which are black and white drawing like photo representations. However there are plenty of them and with the help of the text you can still get it right. A must have for beginners and a useful companion for more experienced hobbyists.
