It gives you a lot of audio preferences /choices and unit protects itself by shutting down if you crank it to theater level. Theres nothing wrong with the unit its just the way it is built. Better sound quality com pared to my previous receivers such as Kenwood ans Sony. The surrounds were far more distinct and controllable. Video output were also better and you can further enhance your hdtv performance. The unit runs hot usually at higher audio level and longer periods thats why I cooled them down with a mini fan like the laptop or personal computer to prevent it from frying. Because Im so satisfied with this receiver I bought another used one this year for my daughter's room and the same it amazed me how consistent this avr-1913 receiver performs. Whether you use the back surround for rear or front bi-amping and bi-wire some channels it still performs well or better. Equalizers and cross-overs for each channel can be customized. I hook this receiver with Polk audio TSI 300 for fronts , monitor 50 for the rears, martin logan TL2 for center, front height bi-amps ans rear bi-wires. Athena PS-400 sub for the front and Bic america F-12 sub for the rear. After a few months of customization the word to describe the result is "AWESOME".
