Hemingway & Gellhorn (DVD, 2013)
22 December 2019
Saga wannabe
I found this movie to be contrived and a bit pompous. I wish the story was about Gellhorns life. She seems like a fascinating character that I will look into more. Most of us have read plenty about Hemingway. That's a tired subject. Kidman does her usual good job tho in war zones she always had lipstick and good hair which stretches the believability a bit for me. Clive Owen is good but not the best actor for this role. They do many tie ins with historical film footage which often doesn't work. In fact if the film fails at all it on the technical end and the writing. The movie should have been shorter or a mini series. As an HBO product it certainly could have been. This was a good attempt and sparked my interest in Gellhorn quite a bit.
Triple Jeopardy: A Daniel Pitt Novel by Perry, Anne , Hardcover

Disappointing
Im a big Anne Perry fan. But this book has an incredibly anoying amount of written down thinking by the main character. Now this is a Anne Perry thing. She always does it but here its to distraction and its the repeating of the same thoughts over and over again with no advancement of the plot ...just increasingly the number of pages which i think was the point. Also the writer almost always lets something go in the beginning of the book that is obviously important and if your not an idiot pretty much tells you " who done it". That's true here and in most of the Daniel Pitt books. They are good but have a lot of ' fill" and dont compare to Perry's earlier writing. I skimmed a lot of this after getting half way thru. If you want to read very good Anne Perry go back and read the William Mink novels.

Enjoyable!
This was a quality film well cast and acted. Very good cinematography. A excellent Jane Austen interpretation, interesting and slightly whimsical. Very enjoyable.
