Marantz MM7025 2 Channel Power Amplifier
16 May 2017
Very Good Performer and a Great Value!
OK, the Marantz MM7025 is not an audiophile superamp. It's not rated into 4 Ohm loads and it will not double power as impedence is halved, but.......it is a well-built, nice looking, easy-to-live-with amp of higher than average power and has proven itself to be be very well thought-out and very well executed. Remote and 12V trigger controlled turn-on/off is provided, as is a cool blue light that circles the centrally located display. The light can be switched off if you find it too gaudy. Speaker posts are very good quality. The amp has been totally reliable and glitch-free in operation for me. I actually have driven a pair 4-Ohm speakers (a/d/s/ HT-300's)without any trouble. But they're just 5.25" two-ways and bass below 80 Hz was handled by subs, so take that for what it's worth. All in all, I consider the MM7025 to be a solid value with better than average looks and user friendliness.

An enduring audio classic!
I owned 901 Series IV's in the 70's. Between then and 2009 I've owned more loudspeakers than I care to admit, including klipschorns and B&W 703's. I'm not saying my 901 VI's are better than those speakers in any objective way, but in my 16x18.5x8.67' room, yes they definitely are better to my ears. No comparison, really. Where the others sounded dead and lifeless, the 901's sound like live music. Where the others produce weak and/or uneven bass, the 901's go deep and loud. They don't have the ultra-clean bass of horn woofers (what does?), but their bass is warm and powerful. They don't do "pinpoint" stereo imaging, but I don't hear that in live music as a rule either. It is primarily an artifact, perhaps even an impressive one, of two-channel reproduction using narrow dispersion speakers. Some say "no highs, no lows, must be Bose", but mine deliver the lows and the highs, although I wouldn't say the highs are as open and airy as really good tweeters heard from the sweet spot. Which brings up another point: the 901's sweet spot is more of a sweet area, as it is much wider than traditional, directional speakers. Sure they sound best from the middle, but they still sound very good from either end of my 5-seat sectional. There is a lot of anti-Bose sentiment out there, especially from those who consider themselves to be audiophiles, but do not let that convince you of anything. A lot of that sentiment is directed at Bose Acoustimass speaker systems, but I've seen plenty of hate heaped on the 901 and their other less expensive stereo speakers, too. But Bose is a solid company that backs it's products. A company that thrives by being innovative. True, they do not generally make obvious attempts to cater to the audiophile market. Who can blame them? That is an aging and shrinking demographic. But the 901 is the product that put Bose on the map in 1968 and remains in production in 2011. And music lovers and/or audiophiles who dismiss it, do so to their own loss. I actually believe most of the more virulent Bose haters out there have never heard the 901 set up properly, which is very important. As long as one follows Bose guidelines, you should be happy with them. Unless you just prefer hi-fi sound to the sound of live music. And I don't say that to demean those who do, or who just prefer a more upclose, front-row, ultra-detailed perspective. That's all well and good, too. It's just that with the 901, Bose attempted (and largely succeeded, imho) to emulate the sound of live music with a compact, affordable product. So, I could not be more impressed...all over again. I enjoyed my sojourn through the audio forest, but I must say it's always good to get back home.

OPTIMUS Pro X7 SPEAKERS - PAIR 8 Ohms 50 Watts RMS Bookshelf/Surround With Box
08 February 2018
solid little jewels!
OK...short and to the point... The Realistic/Optimus Minimus/Pro 7's are THE quintessential mini-speaker. Everyone could/can afford a pair. They are solid as a rock. and they sound good mainly by not trying too hard. There is much virtue simply in small size and in simplicity of design, when talking mini speakers...or loudspeakers in general for that matter, and the Optimus Pro 7's from Radio Shack embodied that ethos like few other speakers.
