I LOVED this book. I've been waiting for Drake's book and wow, I wasn't dis
Savage Nature, by Christine Feehan, is the fifth book in her Leopard series. While the book started out a little too "National Geographic" for, me the story does pick up as the book continues. The novel pleasantly surprised me. :)
This book is completely centered around a Louisiana bayou, so know that going into it. The accents, gators and snakes, Spanish moss, the whole shabang. Christine goes into great detail about every living thing in her story, except maybe our main squeeze Drake. I was hoping to get a little more history on his character. She mentions the rain forest and him quite a bit, but that was about the gist of it. Drake suffered a debilitating injury but I never found out how he got it. Did a vampire try and bite it off or maybe a zombie? No idea. Aside from that he was a fun character to read about, very alpha male without being a overly piggish.
I really loved Saria's character, a wild and beautiful a young woman who takes no crap from anyone but does as she sees fit. Raised by an alcoholic father and five brothers who could care less what she was doing in her youth, Saria retreats into the swamp to photograph the world around her. I enjoyed her character very much, would I love to join her in the swamp to catch some gators? Yum no. But I would definitely watch from the safety of a large boat with a shotgun in my hand. lol Drake and Saria have that nice magic I like to read in characters: the unexplainable pull, jealousy, passion, witty dialog back and forth. Add to that some Cat shifting and things get pretty hot and heavy. Meoooow. ;)
The plot of the novel is pretty solid, Saria accidentally catches the eye of a serial killer and the hunt is on to stop them and protect her. With personal attacks getting a little too close to home, Drake is suspicious of everyone. You won't know until the very end who the killer really is. A solid story with a few missing parts, but overall worth a read. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Also a big shout out to Lake County where Christine AND my Mom live!
