Typical Spy Novel
Congressmen are killed in Washington, DC. And your typical cast of characters from the CIA, FBI, NSA, NavySEALS, military special ops, are all trying to break the case. The setting is pre 9/11 (1999). So a good thing about this novel as opposed to the ones we get today, is there is no reference to the Middle East, Iraq, or Iran. The anti-Middle East angle makes this 612 page thriller awesome. It was very well written, and by the standard test: "IT IS A PAGE-TURNER." As a former Army man 1989-1992 I worked my way up to a good security clearance at Ft. Benning. Saying that, the words Vince Flynn writes, takes people into some situations as they would be there.

ABOUT A SEMESTER AT COLLEGE [ SEX & DRUGS & ALCOHOL ]
This is a TIMELESS book about a semester at college. It is told in the first-person from each characters' point of view. I bought my copy in 1988 at my campus bookstore. I re-read this book every year or so, and it seems different every time. I told Bret this in 1994 in Chicago and he said that he gets that from alot of readers. This story covers what drives typical college students and sex, drugs and alcohol are the fuel. There is every kind of sexual activity and who wants who and who gets who makes for very entertaining reading in the first-person format. "IT IS NOT A PAGE-TURNER." It is not MEANT to be a page-turner. For example, one whole page goes blank (attributed to a character), and the reader has to wonder what that designated character is thinking. By the way, the ultra lackluster movie of the same name, starring Dawson Creek is in no way a pre-cursor to the actual superior content in this book.

Excellent View of US Army DELTA FORCE
An excellent first-hand account of the selection process and training required to become a member of the US Army's Delta Force. Having been through alot of similar training as an Army Airborne Infantryman, Haney's descriptions are spot-on in this non-fiction book. The TV series "The Unit" is based on this book, and I believe Haney is a consultant to the series' developers. Obviously, Haney cannot go into depth of missions because of national security concerns. "IT IS A PAGE-TURNER."
