Not just for the Spitfire or WWII buff
This book succeeds in the incredibly difficult task of satisfying both the knowledgeable Spitfire/ RAF enthusiast and the reader who may have no prior knowledge and little interest in the subject.
The author supplies a lot of technical detail about the ongoing development of the Spitfire without getting lost in the details, and tells the story primarily from the point of view of pilots and ground crew. It is structured chronologically and as he revisits participants he does a good job of where you met this person before, so you don't have to worry about the continuity of any one person's experiences.
I've read quota lot on the subject, so many of the people are familiar, but would say that 60% it more are unfamiliar to me so this is not merely a compilation of previously published works. There is also quite a bit in America's who flew the Spitfire, which was a nice surprise given the "very British love story" subtitle. All the Commonwealth countries are represented as well.
All Spitfire aficionados will read this book, so my recommendation is specifically for those who wouldn't normally pick it up. It has a great aesthetic- cover art, end paper art are fantastic, and the narrative is accessible, flows well, and is exciting from start to finish.

Fantastic!
Really appropriately titled. What a great era- full of legendary drivers and machines that were as fast or faster than todays with few of the safety features. Vic Elford could drive anything anywhere, and so his viewpoint will remain of huge importance as long as people read this book, so please, read this book and support Vic. He and his wife sell many signed items on ebay, so if Vic, Brian Redman, Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx and others are the stuff of legends to you, seek out the Vic Elford collection.

Fantastic!
Picked this up at Wax Trax in Denver last week, listened this morning, and am super impressed. Sound is excellent- the vibe is beyond that. The energy in this live set makes it a great introduction to Thunders’ writing, delivery, and song writing ability. Please buy this album so we continue to see gems like this pressed on vinyl. You may not like it, but you won’t regret it!
