Good idea not so well executed
1 of 1 found this helpful Bought one of these as I wanted a 12 pin and two anderson sockets, its a great idea but badly executed.
The unit has nice fat wires going in and looks the business, I had to take it apart to add some diodes and found that the fat wires connect to the 7 pin round socket but the wires linking across to the 12 pin were extremely thin (see picture) .My main concern was the blue wire that feeds the brakes, this can draw a fair bit of current especially with a heavy dual axle caravan, I considered this a big risk so removed the dodgy wiring and replaced it with suitably sized wires.
It seems that the factory (China) are try to save a few cents on internal wiring, I contacted Onex and actually spoke to the owner, he seemed dismissive and said most auto electricians would rewire it anyway, to be honest I was annoyed at his attitude where customer safety was involved as a lot of these may be bought by DIYers like myself who would not necessarily look inside and just connect to the wires hanging out of the unit.
If you have one of these and are using the 12 pin socket I strongly urge you to check the thickness of the internal interconnecting wiring for suitability.
